Take Up Our Cross

In this video from The Commons archives, Curtis Stephan and Sarah Hart share their song “Take Up Our Cross,” co-written with Marc Byrd.

Reflecting upon his performance with Steve Angrisano at World Youth Day 2008, Curtis shares the song’s origin and his remarkable collaboration with Sarah and Marc. The resulting piece is one of sweet devotion and dedication to Christ.

One very important thing to note: this song is not just for Lent. The Cross, a central teaching of Jesus, reminds to persevere every day of our lives. In times of struggle or sorrow, we are called to realize our full potential through Christ and turn to him for strength. This is not just a seasonal challenge. It is a lifelong endeavor.

"We take up our cross and follow him.
We lay down our lives that we might live.
We carry the hope of Christ within.
We take up our cross and follow him."
